Marcia Griffith

Born in West Kingston, Jamaica, Griffiths started her career in 1964,
performing on stage with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires at the behest of Phillip James of The Blues Busters, who had heard her singing in her home neighbourhood. Her performance was sufficiently impressive that the following day Ronnie Nasralla and Clement Dodd both offered her recording contracts. She chose to record for Dodd’s Studio One label, where she recorded a series of
duets with male singers such as Tony Gregory (“You’re Mine”), Bob Marley (“Oh My Darling”), Jeff Dixon (“Words”), and Bob Andy (“Always Together”), with whom she would have a relationship lasting several years. In 1968 she had her first
success as a solo artist, with “Feel Like Jumping”, which like her other early Studio One solo hits (including “Truly” and “Melody Life”), were written by Andy.
From 1970 to 1974 she worked together with Bob Andy as a duo (Bob and Marcia), on the Harry J label. She also recorded for Lloyd Charmers. Between 1974 and 1981 she was a member of the I Threes, a trio of backing singers, which supported Bob Marley & the Wailers. She continued to record
as a solo artist throughout the 1970s, working with producers such as Sonia Pottinger, and Joseph Hoo Kim. In 1983, she released her re-recording of the Bunny Wailer song “Electric
Boogie”, originally recorded and released by Wailer in 1976. Although the 1983 version became a minor hit for Griffiths, the song was remixed in 1989, and it was this version that made the Electric Slide, a line dance, an international
dance craze. It reached number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it her most successful single. It remains the highest-selling single by a female reggae singer of all time. She has more recently had further hits with producer Donovan Germain.
She had two children with JBC disc jockey Errol Thompson, and raised them alone after his death in 1983.
Griffiths was featured on the album True Love by Toots and the Maytals, which won the Grammy Award in 2004 for Best Reggae Album, and showcased many notable musicians including Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Trey Anastasio, Gwen Stefani / No Doubt, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Manu Chao, The Roots, Ryan
Adams, Keith Richards, Toots Hibbert, Paul Douglas, Jackie Jackson, Ken Boothe, and The Skatalites. Griffiths appeared in the 2011 documentary “Reggae Got Soul: The Story of Toots and the Maytals” which was featured on BBC and described as “The untold story of one of the most influential artists ever to come out of Jamaica”. A Brazilian documentary film about Griffiths, Reggae Meets Samba, was in production as of December 2013. In January 2014 she announced that as part of her fifitieth year in the music business she would be releasing an album of cover versions, Songs That Inspire Me, Songs I Love to Sing, recorded with Germain. In August 2014 it was announced that Marcia  would received the Jamaican Order of Distinction (Commander class) in October that year.

Christopher Martin

A star has risen. Christopher Martin, the talented singer/performer from Back Pasture in St. Catherine who shot to instant fame and recognition shortly after winning the coveted Digicel Rising Stars title in 2005, is fast becoming one of the most sought after performers on the Jamaican music landscape. With a slate of singles permeating radio and the Jamaican music charts including
Giving It and Jamaican Girls, Christopher created history when he became the first Digicel Rising Stars alumni to score a hit single on any chart in Jamaica.

‘It has been a wonderful journey so far, filled with new and promising encounters. It is also challenging but I love what I am doing, so it makes that much easier’, Christopher remarked when asked about the journey from being an unknown to a popular personality.

Christopher’s growth as an artiste and an individual ever since he shot onto the scene in 2005 is quite evident. His vocal chops have improved drastically, he is now
under the guidance of the Big Yard label which is one of the most prolific musical entities in Jamaica, and he has gained a lot of respect from his peers. ‘I’ve grown tremendously and I am more confident in my performance. My voice also seems more richer and I know exactly what it is I am capable of. I think I have gained
the respect from others, due to the amount of work that I have been putting in’, said Martin.

Martin was born on Valentine’s Day in 1987 to parents Cleveland and Maxine Martin. He attended the Watermount All-Age School and later the St. Jago High School. It
was during his high school years that his love for the dramatic arts and sports developed. He participated in various sporting activities including football and he
even participated in the School’s Drama Festival where he was awarded the best actor award in 2003. That same year he was named Mr. St. Jago High and he also earned the sectional prize for Most Talented. Additionally, Martin has won numerous awards for singing, throughout his high school years. In 2005, he was awarded the Gold Medal in the Jamaica National Skills competition in singing.

Christopher graduated from St. Jago High school in 2003. After winning the Digicel Rising Stars competition, Martin participated in Digicel’s Christmas promotions in
2005. His debut single Love is all We Need formed part of the promotional campaign.

Martin’s subsequent releases included Conscience, Christmas in Jamdown featuring the Katalys Crew, My Love for You, Take My Wings, Tonight, Giving It, and
Jamaican Girls. He has worked with a number of top producers in the
reggae/dancehall arena including Robert Livingston (Big Yard), Arif Cooper, Shane Brown and Christopher Birch. He has performed on a number of stage shows, events, functions and entertainment events across Jamaica and even overseas. One of his major accomplishments in
2006 was signing a contract with Blue Cross of Jamaica. He will make appearances on the behalf of the company until June 2006. Martin’s parents have been the source of his motivation to pursue his musical ambitions. ‘My parents and my peers at school really motivated me. They always said that I would be a star’, he said. He said his main objective is to bring the music and his interpretation of the music to farther heights. ‘I want every household across the world to know and love my music and where I come from’, Martin added. Martin is presently studying Business Management and Accounting at the University of Technology (UTECH) in Jamaica. His lifelong goal is to become an entrepreneur. Martin lists singing, reading, socializing and baking among his hobbies. His website which can be seen by logging on to www.chrismartin.com.jm is up and running. His fans can interact with him via that medium. Very soon, a fan club will be officially launched where fans can get closer to him.

Beenie Man

Anthony Moses Davis (born August 22, 1973), better known by his stage name Beenie Man, is a Grammy award winning Jamaican reggae artist. He is now the proclaimed,” King of the Dance Hall.” He recorded his debut single, “Too Fancy”, with record producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes in 1981, with Lawes also including him on the 1983 album “Junjo Presents Two Big Sounds” alongside established stars such as Dillinger, Fathead, and Ringo. His debut album, “The Invincible Beenie Man: The Ten Year Old DJ Wonder” was produced by Bunny Lee and released in 1983, his first hit single following the same year with the Winston Holness-produced “Over the Sea”. He found his artistic home at the Shocking Vibes studio where he continued to record singles with only moderate success in the early 1990s. Beenie Man had his first number one single in Jamaica in 1993 with “Matie”, and he won the DJ of the Year Award the same year, the first of eight consecutive awards.
In 1994, he was signed by Island Records and released the critically acclaimed album “Blessed,” which established his reputation internationally. During the period from the mid to late 1990s, Beenie Man dominated the Jamaican
charts to the extent that he perhaps had a good claim to the crown of “Dancehall King”, a title only bestowed previously on Yellowman in the early 1980s. Beenie Man’s first real break into the United States came in 1997. He
recorded “Who Am I” and the single quickly went Gold. In 1998, Beenie Man signed to Virgin Records to release albums in the United States. His first American offering was “The Doctor” (1998). During the late 1990s, Beenie Man began his conquest of America with the hits, “Romie”, “Who Am
I”, and “Girls Dem Sugar”, which featured American R&B singer, Mýa. In 2000, Beenie Man released “Art & Life,” which featured Arturo Sandoval and Wyclef Jean (The Fugees), for which received a Grammy Award for Best Reggae
Album. In 2002, he had a sizeable hit with a duet with Janet Jackson called “Feel It Boy”, but his biggest break in America came in early 2004 with the release of a remix of “Dude”, featuring guest vocals by fellow Jamaican Ms. Thing, as well
as rhymes by Shawnna. The lyrics to some of his songs have been criticized for inciting the murder of
homosexuals and over the years several of his appearances, particularly in Europe, have been protested and ultimately cancelled due to pressure from gay advocacy groups. In April 2009, Beenie Man signed with Brookland Entertainment, a new record label formed by Eric Nicks and The Trackmasters, in preparation to release his new album, “The Legend Returns”. It features his new single “Gimme Gimme.”

Barrington Levy

Barrington Levy (born April 30, 1964) is a reggae and dancehall artist. He was born in Clarendon, Jamaica and soon formed a band with his cousin, Everton Dacres, called the Mighty Multitude; the pair released “My Black Girl” in 1977. Levy established his solo career the next year with “A Long Time Since We Don’t Have No Love”; though the single was a
failure, the fourteen year old was a popular performer at Jamaican dancehalls. Soon, Levy met Junjo Lawes and Hyman Wright, both record producers, and recorded several singles with the Roots Radics, including “Al Yah We Deh”, “Looking My Love”, “Englishman”,
“Wedding Ring Aside” and “Collie Weed”, all of which became hits and established Levy’s career.
Levy’s next few singles were similarly successful, including “Shine Eye Girl”, “Wicked Intention”, “Jumpy Girl”, “Skylarking” (by Horace Andy), “Disco Music”, “Reggae Music”, “Never Tear My Love Apart”, “Jah”, “You Made Me So Happy” and “When You’re Young and in Love”. Levy then recorded several duets with Toyan, Jah Thomas and Trinity, and
memorably appeared at Reggae Sunsplash in 1980 and 1981. Though LPs were not terribly
important in Jamaica at the time, Levy released three albums before 1980: Bounty Hunter, Shine Eye Gal (United Kingdom) and Englishman, a critically acclaimed record.
By 1980’s Robin Hood, Levy was one of the biggest Jamaican stars, and saw his international fame growing as well, especially in England. Taking a break from albums, Levy then released a series of hit singles, including “Mary Long Tongue”, “In the Dark”, “Too Poor”, “I Have a Problem”, “Even Tide Fire a Disaster”, “I’m Not in Love”, “You Have It”, “Love of Jah”, “Under Mi Sensi”, “Tomorrow Is Another Day”, “Robberman”, Black Rose”, “My Woman” and “Money Move”. Levy returned to LPs with Lifestyle and Money Move,
followed by a British hit album called Here I Come; Levy received Best Vocalist at the British Reggae Awards. The late 1980s saw Levy, now in his twenties, slow down his output, though he continued to
perform and record until 1988. In 1993, Levy tried to break in the United States with Barrington, but Levy and his label, MCA Records, did not have a good relationship and he soon left. In the 1990s, Levy continued to release periodic hits in Jamaica, and more rarely in the UK. In 1998, he released Living Dangerously, which included guests like Snoop Doggy
Dogg and Long Beach Dub All-Stars. He also appeared on two singles by rapper Shyne, and Canadian Hip-Hop group Rascalz,
as well as Cali-Reggae Rockers Slightly Stoopid.

New Kidz

"New Kidz” may boast many styles but he is indeed one of a kind! Born Anthony Bennett on
November 17, 1976 in Downtown Kingston, Kidz has never shied away from talking about his perilous upbringing in music. Instead, he poignantly chronicles his experiences through his music, shedding light on the harsh realities of street life, at times unmistakably interwoven with satirical humour.

He blazed on the dancehall scene at an early age and made the transition from a hard core dance hall deejay to reggae singjay smoothly. He has creatively used the two genres, complemented with his gravelled tone voice to create his own unique sound.
Though extravagant niceties took a backseat to more important fees, thanks to Kidz' father, Lebert Bennett, their home was never without music. Within the realms of the small concrete and board structure, a tiny but powerful sound system echoed the mellow Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer and Thriller U tunes of the day. At age 12, Kidz relocated with his family to Duhaney Park, St. Andrew, and by age 14, his musical aspirations began to take shape. While still a student at Clancarthy High School in Vineyard Town, St. Andrew, he began playing on the La Benz sound system, owned by fellow deejay, Spragga Benz and Ricky
Villa; though he did this for a few years, his ultimate goal was to display his own lyrical skills. Kidz eventually took the plunge by himself and in 1998 dropped a homemade compilation of his works, Keep It Real, which led to him working with childhood friend turned producer/manager, Q45.

Following the release of his very first radio single, “Help” on the Dirty Money Riddim (also featuring powerhouses like Capelton, Lexxus & Elephant Man), New Kidz eventually caught the attention of international dancehall and reggae icon, Buju Banton, and started working with his upstart label - Gargamel Music, Inc. New Kidz has recorded a number of memorable cuts for the Gargamel label, including "Man A Gallis" on the 100 Watt riddim, "Flava" on the
Golden Tree riddim and "Curfew" with mentor Buju Banton, a socially conscious combo featured on the Buju Banton Presents: Jamrock Classics Vol. 1 compilation. Now standing firm as the flagship artist at TruckBack Studio's, Kidz has spent the past couple months completing his debut Reggae Album "CHECK" with producer Adrian Locke of LockeCity Music Group and Steve Locke of TruckBack Records. With the promotional plan for that Album set it place, He has diligently been crafting new songs for a Dancehall Album, with a slew of the island's top producers including Arthur Wale, Teetimus, Claims Records, John John, and TP Productions.

Far from one-dimensional, his recent repertoire balances the hard core songs: "Nuh Fear" and "Zero The Game" the downright sexy: "Go Go Dancer" and "Tip Up pon Yu Toe", to collaborations with: Lady Saw and international Rapper/Movie Star, Eve - "Money Green", Beenie Man - "Daddaaayyy", and the current dancehall hit "Street Pledge" featuring label mates Ding Dong and Baby Chris.

While he sees the despair and gloom of the ghetto, he also sees life's beautiful moments and is able to bring that portrait of life to his music. With an air of unpretentious certainty, New Kidz states, "I just want to be seen as a person who made a difference inside and outside music.... Someone the youth want to listen to and be like."

captivating audiences with his deep, resonant voice.

**A Humble Beginning**
Ras Manasseh's journey into the world of music began modestly in 1999, during his tenure as a trainee at the Buff Bay HEART Trust/NTA. Fate intervened when one of his instructors recognized his
exceptional talent and appointed him as the lead singer of a choir formed for the institution's graduation ceremony. Little did they know, this was the genesis of a musical odyssey that would span decades and continents.

**Cultural Influences and Inspirations**

Rooted in the rich tapestry of Jamaican culture, Ras Manasseh draws inspiration from legendary icons such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Buju Banton, and Jah Cure, infusing his music with echoes
of reggae's golden era. His reverence for these luminaries is evident in his soul-stirring compositions and impassioned performances, which pay homage to Jamaica's musical legacy while carving out a unique identity of their own.

**Evolution of an Artiste**

Formerly known as 'Prince Kamau', Ras Manasseh embarked on a transformative journey, embracing his calling with newfound determination and zeal. Relocating to Hart Hill, Portland, he immersed himself in the vibrant local music scene, honing his craft through relentless dedication and perseverance. He is a  committed member of Optimist International, he
served as president from 2021 to 2022. Optimist International is a charity
organisation focused mainly in the interest of youth and community. Through music and activism, he continues to inspire
positive change, leaving an indelible legacy that extends far beyond the stage.

**A Musical Maestro's Legacy**

As Ras Manasseh's journey continues to unfold, one thing remains certain – his legacy as a musical maestro and cultural
ambassador is destined to endure for generations to come. With each note he sings and each stage he graces, he reaffirms his status as a true icon of Jamaican music, enriching lives and uplifting spirits with his timeless melodies and unwavering passion. In the words of Nicola Cunningham, writing for the Sunday Herald Jamaica, "This Portlander, if managed and marketed right, could be the next big thing from the East." Indeed, Ras Manasseh's star shines bright, illuminating the path for aspiring musicians and embodying the spirit of reggae's enduring legacy.
